Deluge System

Caruth offers a full, turnkey deluge system solution. During development, Caruth designs and installs the deluge system. Once the building is occupied, Caruth inspects, services and monitors the building’s deluge system to verify that the system is compliant and operating as intended.

Purpose

The purpose of a deluge system is to provide rapid and comprehensive fire suppression over a large area. Unlike traditional sprinkler systems, a deluge system has open nozzles that are constantly filled with water or another fire-suppressing agent. When a fire is detected, the system activates and releases a high-volume flow of water or suppressant, flooding the entire protected area. Deluge systems are commonly used in high-hazard environments, such as chemical plants, power plants, and aircraft hangars, where rapid fire control is essential.

Types

There are different types of deluge systems based on the type of agent used for fire suppression. Water deluge systems use water as the primary extinguishing agent and are commonly employed in areas with high fire risk, such as flammable liquid storage areas. Foam deluge systems release foam instead of water and are suitable for suppressing flammable liquid fires. Deluge systems can also utilize other specialized agents, such as dry chemicals or gases, depending on the specific fire hazard and requirements of the facility. Caruth’s team is familiar with most types of deluge systems.
