FM200 System

Caruth offers a full, turnkey FM200 system solution. During development, Caruth designs and installs the FM200 system. Once the building is occupied, Caruth inspects, services and monitors the building’s FM200 system to verify that the system is compliant and operating as intended.

Purpose

The purpose of an FM200 system is to provide fast and effective fire suppression in enclosed spaces. FM200, also known as HFC-227ea, is a clean gaseous agent that extinguishes fires by removing heat and interrupting the chemical reaction. It is primarily used in areas with sensitive equipment, such as computer server rooms, control rooms, and data centers, as it does not leave residue or cause damage. The FM200 system rapidly discharges the agent to suppress the fire, minimizing downtime and protecting valuable assets.

Types

There are primarily two types of FM200 systems: total flooding systems and local application systems. Total flooding systems are designed to protect an entire enclosed space by releasing FM200 to achieve a specific concentration within the protected area. Local application systems, on the other hand, are used to target specific equipment or areas within a larger space. These systems release FM200 directly onto the specific hazard or equipment that needs protection while minimizing the discharge volume and potential damage. Caruth’s team is familiar with most types of FM200 systems.
